No.

I first noticed it with 4 windows open, but it's reproducable with any
number it seems (with the obvious exception of '0' and '1' ;-)

Let me try - I usualy only have rxvt's open...

Nope, works with others as well.  Qt-based, GTK-based, all show the
same.

I just notice that the behaviour can also be irratic (or rather, I did
not yet detect a pattern):  not always does the mouse-focussed window
maximize underneath _all_ other windows, but in some instances, it went
over a few and underneat others.

You should be able to reproduce this, I think.
