I also now installed bbconf and fluxbg. Here are my comments: I installed bbconf 1.10 (using pkgsrc build environment) with qt3-libs-3.3.2nb1. It appeared to work, but I didn't have any themes nor background choices. It said at startup: unable to create plugin from /usr/pkg/lib/bbconf/plugins/libthemes.so I ktrace'd it but didn't see where the problem was. The other plugins appear to work. I saw someone else had similar problem http://www.freebsdforums.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=9481&ref_=fr So bbconf (at this time) didn't provide me with any tool for choosing a background image. I installed fluxbg-0.7 which is using gtkmm-2.2.12. (I made a pkgsrc package for fluxbg, if anyone is interested.) It didn't provide any useful instructions. I ran fluxbg but it complained "Could not open file". I ran "fluxbg_conf --help" and it found my bsetbg and created a /home/reed/.fluxbg file indicating the path to bsetbg. I ran fluxbg again and it said "broken pipe". I ran fluxbgd and it said: Starting up fluxbg daemon... fluxbgd: Could not open file - No such file or directory ktrace said: 18876 fluxbgd NAMI "/home/reed/.fluxbgl" 18876 fluxbgd RET open -1 errno 2 No such file or directory The README indicates that .fluxbg should have settings. But it only has one setting in it. I am not sure about .fluxbgl. I didn't read the source. I stopped here. Thank you to those who provide other suggestions: gthumb, rox, and chbg. I think rox is too much (I used it a few years ago). I will try gthumb and chbg. Does gthumb have an option to setthe root image? Now I have a list of around 18 image viewers. I am still looking for the perfect tool for selecting a background image. Jeremy C.
