I’d don’t think you’d notice a delay from an SSD waking up. I don’t think anyone even noticed with an internal spinning disk. Just with an external disk.

It could have to do with whatever was last selected (which is what will be selected when you call the interface back). Have you noticed any pattern with what’s selected when this happens?

Could this be an unwanted by-product of a Mavericks power-saving feature, say like app nap? I am not very sure about this, but I have an impression
that this did not happen when my mac was running Mountain Lion.

Since the original report was under 10.7, probably not. I’ve seen reports like this off and on for as long as I’ve been using Quicksilver.
