Adding preferences for catalog entries is a pain (at least I think so), and since this is a one of a kind entry, it’s not worth it to me personally. [The process is documented][osp] if anyone wants to jump in.
Do we have a suggestion for max number of items in the catalog? Has it changed since 10 years ago (I think then the suggestion was about 5000 items)? Is the limiting factor memory/cpu (which should have changed over time) or something algorithmic?
I’m sure it’s higher, but really depends on your hardware. The main limiting factor (that you would actually notice) is searching. The more you have, the more it has to check for matches.
So I would say if results aren’t coming back as fast as you can think about them, you need to reduce the size of your catalog.
