I guess the manual is a little light on the details there. I’ve made a
note to fix it. But to answer your question…
1. Go to Preferences → Catalog and click the `+` at the bottom to
add a new custom entry.
2. Choose “Synonym” from the list.
3. In the panel that appears, enter the name you want to use for the
thing and hit ↩
4. Click the search pane below the text box and search like you would
in the main interface. When you see the desired target, hit ↩
That should be it.
