That is the issue, you are trying to insert raw UTF-8 codes into files that
are declared as ISO-8859-1 encoded ones, thus xsltproc (and non-UTF-8 aware
systems/editors) make a bad assumption about what characters must be written.
Makes sense. I'll try setting my charset to ISO-8859-1 next time I
need to add a non-ASCII character and see what happens. Thanks for the
clarification.
