Hmmm...

It is my understanding that the t1lib library is only used to
provide Type 1 fonts for viewing DVI files. Furthermore, in the
evince README, they claim to want to eliminate t1lib completely.

I could be wrong, I'm just going on some preliminary reading of
the evince web site and the docs in the tarball.

I had to create a patch for evince to use the t1lib, and created
a bug about it in GNOME BZ. Here is the patch:

I received a reply to the bug that said the issue is already
fixed in evince CVS.
