I believe you and Wayne, but it's not very obvious to me from the page 
you reference.  The page says GLib 2.28, not 2.30.1.

The FAQ is all about GTK.  The Glib download pages are all 
differentiated by minor version.  One place says LATEST-IS-2.28.7. 
Another LATEST-IS-2.30.1.  A third says LATEST-IS-2.31.0.  How are we 
supposed to figure out what the latest *stable* is?  The Installation 
Guide doesn't say.

The only reason I did glib at all was because it is now a required 
(circular) dependency of pkg-config.  I have a long way to go before I 
start into X or anything, like GTK, that requires X.

I've never really liked Gnome from a BLFS point of view.  There are too 
many people doing lots of different things and the documentation of how 
things are stitched together (e.g. versioned) is poor.
