I'm reverting back to 2.30.1 now, but where does it say that 
even-second-levels are the 'stable' versions?  If seems to be well hidden.

I agree that there is no obvious reason to upgrade pkg-config other than 
we are just trying to get to the latest versions.  It was an issue for 
LFS, but for BLFS, I would think that anyone needing pkg-config would 
need glib too.
