I don't use Gnome either, but I'd like to see it updated.  The problem 
with building Gnome from my point of view is that it takes 36 packages 
to get the basic desktop running where KDE3 basically does it with 2 
packages (KDE4 is definately not an improvment here).   This obviously 
makes getting all the Gnome packages coordinated a bit of a problem.

I'd say that anything done here is welcome as long as it's coordinated. 
  However I'd like to know if others have any plans along this line.
