It's a text editor widget, not just for highlighting. If the package is to be archived, the mousepad can't be built with GTK+2 support, thus forcing users to use GTK+3 even if they do manage to build Xfce4 without GTK+3 at all. As far as I know, it's the only decent GTK+2 editor still available in the book (Bluefish is GTK+3, Emacs ... no clue, and probably too complex to be considered by many). -- Note: My last name is not Krejzi.
