4.2 Noto Fonts.
4.2.1 I submit that installing all of Noto-hinted is a waste of
space. Many of the fonts are for historical writing systems for
which none of us will ever encounter computer text. If people are
using these, they should try them and then remove those which are
no use to them.
Have them all installed! A quick you don't need this, this, this, or that
would be very useful as these do take up some space. :-)
Now in the wiki
I'll revise the page to make sense of the earlier
noto-fonts-2015-09-29-license-adobe : for those fonts which are in
both hinted and unhinted, which is most of the main ones, installing
by the book gives two versions, as well as ttcs for NotoSans itself -
your guess is as good as mine *which* will be used by fontconfig in
that case!
I'll also rework the coverage of Noto-hinted.
One thing I don't understand:
$ tar -tf v2015-09-29-license-adobe.tar.gz|wc -l
292
$ unzip -l Noto-hinted.zip|wc -l
174
$ ll Noto-hinted.zip v2015-09-29-license-adobe.tar.gz -h
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bdubbs bdubbs 472M Dec 15 2015 Noto-hinted.zip
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bdubbs bdubbs 19M Feb 27 17:41 v2015-09-29-license-adobe.tar.gz
Why does the small zip file have so many more files than the large tarball?
