Actually, the one thing I always wanted to know that was generally undocumented was how to edit the menus. I think I saw that there's now a tool to do it, but it's still so damned difficult. Off topic: Do you understand when and how to force the menu to update in GNOME? update-desktop-database doesn't make GNOME do anything as far as I can tell. Usually, I have to shut down the session and restart it to see anything. There must be some lock file or cache that doesn't get updated.
