For my sins, I've been building most of xorg-7.1 on multilib ppc64.
Now, the book is thorough, but I really dislike ending up with
things that I didn't build in 6.9 (e.g. xprint) and I don't want to
use the deprecated things such as the proxy stuff, so I've stripped
out the packages that I thought wouldn't be needed. (Then I went
back and had to add ALL of the core fonts before it would display
anything beyond the background and an 'x' cursor :). I know this
means some people will tell me that I'm on my own if I build
differently from the book, but I'm hping somebody can suggest
fruitful lines of enquiry to fix my problems, which are:

1. ctrl_alt_{+,-} don't change the resolution. Peter Steiger
remarked on this last month, but got no response. Unlike him, I'm
not seeing any messages on the console log suggesting that the
resolution is being altered. Like for him, xrandr works to change
the resolution.

2. now that I've got mwm built as my temporary window manager (I
need lesstif anyway), the alt-tab key combination to switch to the
next window (i.e. the next xterm) is non-functional. The tab key
itself works and alt works in e.g. alt-F4 to close a window.

The things I've consciously omitted are:

protocols
---------
applewmproto, windowswmproto, xproxymanagementprotocol

libraries
---------
libXprintUtil, liboldX, libXprintAppUtil

apps
----
beforelight, bitmap, editres, elapse, fonttosfnt, fslsfonts,
fstobdf, ico, lbxproxy, mkcfm, oclock, proxymgr, rstart, showfont,
smproxy, x11perf, xbiff, xclipboard, xconsole, xdbedizzy, xditview,
xedit, xfd, xfindproxy, xfsinfo, xfwp, xgc, xkbprint, xload, xlogo,
xlsatoms, xmag, xman, xmessage, xmh, xmore, xphelloworld,
xplsprinters, xpr, xprehashprinterlist, xrx, xsetmode, xsetpointer,
xtrap

 Any suggestions, please ?
