The 1.2.x series of cups apparently changed some interface that the KDE print system relied on. You have a few options to get things working: 1) Downgrade cups to 1.1.x and avoid messing with KDE 2) Patch your current KDE using some patches developed by the kubuntu people. I grabbed the patches from a Gentoo install. 3) Upgrade KDE to 3.5.5 since it contains support for cups 1.2.x My recommendation would be to go with option 3.
