Oh, that's not a problem. I long ago put the commands for installing NM into a script, where they'll live forever... :) Seriously. Like I said, I've no problem with scripting or CLI - my entire LFS/BLFS system is held together by a collection of bash and python scripts. But likewise, I have no particular aversion to having the computer "just deal with it", if it can do a good job of it. Here's another example for you - which is easier? Suspending the laptop by opening a shell and typing "echo mem > /sys/power/state"? Or by simply closing the lid? Simon.
