He's maintaining that part of BLFS at the moment - I think mainly to stop the rest of us upgrading libdrm and braking nouveau users' desktops ;-)
Let me try and rephrase it - if you follow all the instructions in the Mesa page, but using a newer version of libdrm, Mesa will not build.
