I think some comments in the book are needed now.
I know you can't cover all possible build options, but the multimedia packages
are popular with the blfs community and some guidance would be welcome. May be
could you add some references so we can go and read for ourselves.
I know I spend a lot of time not really knowing exactly what I should be
installing to support a certain media player. So I probably install more than
is required - just to cover my derrière. For example I use VLC to play movies.
It is based on ffmpeg so I assume I should stick with the 0.10 versions of the
gst plugins. So questions which immediately arise for me are, amongst other -
Who deprecated ffmpeg?
Will VLC continue to be based on ffmpeg?
Why do I need libav?
