After looking at the kde apps I have installed : konsole (always starts with a small font), juk (useless for me, but no worse than rhythmbox), kmix (works, but is now enormous on the screen), dragon (works fine), konqueror (works), okular (can display everything _except_ PDFs in this build) I conclude that revisiting kde will be a waste of my time.
