Not as part of any book, so not officially supported is a better

Your distro, your rules. We don't support any package management method
by default and leave it to user.

DESTDIR may apply to any packaging method and it's more generic - so
that might be the reason why it's (partially) supported.

Bruce recently added a footer to lfs-support mailing list mails but not
for this one. I do agree that it needs to be mentioned somewhere where
it's visible for everyone.
