Hi Armin,
We don't support Package Users in any way in any of the books.
It's been in LFS for quite a while, so this is a pretty strong statement.
Anyway, that's unfortunate, I feel that Package Users (or "User Based
Management") should be supported in all of the books.
After reviewing all of the options for package management that the book
highlights, this one makes the most sense to me. Being "unique to LFS" was
also intriguing. ...And it's not that difficult once you get used to it
(unless of course a package doesn't do what its supposed to).
To each his or her own, but at any rate I believe it deserves as much merit
as DESTDIR.
If this is a personnel issue, I would be willing to contribute. The hint
defiantly needs to be updated.
Also, we
recommend SQLite when building NSS - but even if you didn't install
SQLite before NSS, the library from SQLite will overwrite one from NSS
anyways in normal circumstances.
Yes, I acknowledged that. Normal is relative.
Last, but not least - Do not top post.
The subscribe page would be an excellent place to mention this sort of
thing, or the welcome email.
Prior to making my first post on this list, I checked for rules or an
etiquette section and found neither. If you have a link to it, I would like
to read it so I can be a better subscriber.
Back to "Do not top post," duly noted, however a please and thank you will
get you a lot further than a demand.
And finally, thank YOU for checking your own system and confirming that my
example was valid, your reply defiantly started me down the right path to
figuring out the problem.
Thanks,
Roger
