It would not do any good at all, it would just create confusion. We could add a note in the beginning of the book though (sorry I cannot provide a chapter at the moment, not in front of my computer). By the way, just as a correction (it was driving my crazy)... it is Configure, Make, and Make install I believe. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Why would the following for Harfbuzz and FreeType create confusion?

GLib-2.44.1, ICU-55.1, (FreeType-2.5.5, Harfbuzz-0.9.40, FreeType-2.5.5)
note: Install Freetype before and after installing Harfbuzz.
Which-2.21, (FreeType-2.5.5, Harfbuzz-0.9.40, FreeType-2.5.5), and
libpng-1.6.17 note: Install Freetype before and after installing
Harfbuzz.

Harfbuzz/FreeType seem unique as they sandwich packages and use different language to describe the same thing. IMHO, listing (FreeType, Harfbuzz, FreeType) with an explanatory note would be clearer and certainly more consistent. Parenthesis could be optional and the note could be reworded. I also assume install means configure, make, make install but I realize people can read things differently.

Just my take and a simple suggestion. I sympathize with the current wording as I realize Harfbuzz and FreeType are perhaps unique and harder to explain relative to the other packages.
