Looks like you found the problem.

Somewhere I read that this other driver replaced the rt73 driver.
I just checked linux config, and even though I went through and built (so I thought) every USB wireless driver that the kernel had (as I want it to handle any USB wireless device I throw at it), I missed *all* of the Ralink drivers!
Don't know how I did that!

Time to rebuild the kernel!
