Thanks All,

In the interim I have run into Ninja, trying to compile libtiff, and
eventually worked out what was going on.

I have been in the habit of using LFS Stable because, at least once
in the past, using LFS Dev, a package version used in chapter 5, has
changed by the time I got to chapter 6. ( I am a bit slow at times.)
