It converts and opens these documents in a fraction of the time Acrobat spans messing around loading, tagging etc. What I want is the text to be read out and Text pal delivers this instantly without having to convert anything. Much easier and simpler. I have associated both PDF and PPT files with Text Pal and life ever since has been much easier. If there is no usable text and the file is just a scanned image you do have to use OCR. I do not have Open Book but there should be an option somewhere to load an image rather than a scan. You will probably have to save the Acrobat file in a suitable image format first. This may be jpg, tiff, or bmp - it depends on what open book will accept. You can specify a file type in the Acrobat save as menu - tab down to files of type in the save as dialogue box and select a suitable image format that Open book can use. The Microsoft Office Document Imaging can OCR from tiff files with excellent results also. Kurzweil also does a good job with inaccessible scanned PDF files.
