I know, but will the upgrade disk require a genuine full copy of either XP
or Vista? I don't mean it being physically installed but I mean would the
disk be required to verify that the upgrade is genuine? I remember back in
the old days that this was necessary if you've purchased an upgrade disk.

Correct. And as I said earlier, I don't know if it requires upgrading
from Vista or if you can upgrade from, say, XP.
