Yes, I have separate names and descriptions for each. I also have defined
the shared folder and external hard drive.

Do you have a Computer name for each computer as well? Typically, all
three names are defined. Usually, the description is not necessary and
really only useful when there are tons of computers on the network and can
serve as a reminder. I can't remember if XP places more focus on the
Description field. To make sure that we are all using the same
terminology, I will use a real world example.
Network name: (known as Workgroup name) 400YOST
Computer name: (my daughter likes to give each computer a Japanese
personal name)Kira
Description: Dell Inspirion 530
Share name: (the name you gave the folder when sharing; shows up in the
folder's Properties Sharing page) Data
When using a file or printer across the network, the computers will
construct a file path as follows:
\\CompputerName\ShareName\Directory\FileName.ext
or in this example:
\\Kira\Data\Music\Aerosmith\Just Push Play\03 - Jaded.mp3
These values are only used locally within your home network for Microsoft
File and Printer Sharing. They are not used across the Internet. They
are also separate from a SSID wireless network name defined for your
router. The SSID name is the name you select when selecting a wireless
network in which to connect to both Internet and local resources.

Hi guys,
Yes, I have enabled file and printer sharing on computer #1 and one
folder plus an external hard drive I have hooked to computer #1.
Computer #1 uses zone alarm free addition for the firewall and Avast for
the anti virus. Computer #2 only uses the Windows firewall and I'm not
sure what is being used for the anti-virus. It is my wife's computer -
and does not have JAWS installed on it because it caused some conflicts
with some programs she uses - so I'll have to ask her when she gets home.
I do know however that it is not MacAfee as we both can't stand that
product.
I did make sure the network name is exactly the same and the computer
descriptions are different.
I've tried everything I can think of but can't figure it out.
Since computer #2 is being connected wirelessly, could there be some kind
of setting in the wireless connection that would not allow it to see
computer #1 while allowing computer #1 to see files on computer #2?
I'm pulling my hair out on this one and at the rate it's going, I should
be bald in about 2 days.
