Since he is behind a router, he can enable the hardware firewall on the router and disable the software ones. I do agree that from his description the problem sounds like a firewall configuration issue on computer one. Frank Ventura

That is I ran the setup repeatedly but I guess that you will have already tried that. Personally I would turn the firewall off on machine 1 temporarily just to eliminate the firewalls as a problem. More specifically I would turn zone alarm off and enable windows firewall on machine 1 and run the setup again on both machines just to check that there is not a rogue setting in Zone Alarm causing a problem. I am suspicious of Zone Alarm as it seems the most likely culprit for stopping Machine 2 from seeing machine 1. | There is a risk with turning all firewalls off including windows firewall. I cannot really see how the Windows firewall is causing a problem but in your position I would probably do this quickly just to eliminate the firewall setup as a problem. I hope tings are sorted as I'm really worried about your hair. Computer #1 uses zone alarm free addition for the firewall and Avast for the anti virus. Computer #2 only uses the Windows firewall and I'm not sure what is being used for the anti-virus. It is my wife's computer - and does not have JAWS installed on it because it caused some conflicts with some programs she uses - so I'll have to ask her when she gets home. I do know however that it is not MacAfee as we both can't stand that product. I did make sure the network name is exactly the same and the computer descriptions are different. I've tried everything I can think of but can't figure it out. Since computer #2 is being connected wirelessly, could there be some kind of setting in the wireless connection that would not allow it to see computer #1 while allowing computer #1 to see files on computer #2? I'm pulling my hair out on this one and at the rate it's going, I should be bald in about 2 days.
