You can actually tell the virtual machine to use the iso as if it was a physical bootable CD/DVD.

So if I happen to have a Windows XP iso, I could put that on a CD? Where
would I install it to? Would I need to make a separate partition on my
hard drive?

I obtained a vinux virtual machine and I didn't have to use a cd, it was
a simple vmx file which VMware player recognized and the machine booted
alongside Windows, and Orca started automatically. It was really quite
cool and simple, if you see where i'm getting at.

No. You need to install Windows XP first before you can use the
virtual machine. Any OS will work, but we're talking about Windows XP
so I will keep to the point.

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to obtain a Windows XP
virtual machine. I already have VMware player installed. I did some
browsing on the Internet, but it looks like I need to insert my
Windows XP cd, which I don't have Windows xp. Isn't the purpose of a
vm is so you can run it without a cd?

If anyone could direct to any links on the WEB where I may be able to
download a virtual machine, either Windows XP home or pro, that would
be much appreciated.

Thank you.
