Not too sure, since just checked on my machine - hit alt + enter on my
computer, ctrl + tab to hardware page, and hit space bar on device manager
button, then tabbed over to second list of devices, hit the letter U and
under universal serial bus controllers it has a list of around 10 different
devices, but if I right click on one of them, and hit enter on properties,
and then use the jaws cursor to read the upcoming dialogue, it will tell me
something like:
this device is working properly
Think that while there are around 10 items showing under universal serial
bus controllers, they mostly all respect different aspects of the same units
as such.

Hi, I am using a laptop. The bad thing is it's a Gateway and they went
out
of business
The weird thing is I downloaded a file on to a device and when it finished
downloading it told me do I want to copy the drive I was using, it makes
no
sense.
Is this what I am looking for: and is there any thing I can do?

Is this a laptop, or a desktop PC?
If desktop, then where are the USB ports located?
You can get USB port cards for desktops, and most likely have USB ports
replaced on some laptops, but really depends on hardware etc., and you
will
most likely need to find a local technician type person to look into it,
confirm, and try sort it out for you.
This is all if some of the ports still work fine, since if all of them are
doing it, it might be an operating system issue.

Thank you all for your help!
I checked out all of the below and I believe I have one or more damaged
USB
ports, this is totally out of my leap, no clue how to fix that
I have 4 USB ports, are they repairable and should I bother calling my
computer manufacture for help?
Thank you,

It could be various things, but if it literally happens with every single
file on the drive, it could be something like the USB port it's plugged
into, the cable that has an issue, the hard drive housing, or even just
the
actual physical drive itsself.
Like Aiden said, firstly, try unplugging it, and maybe connect it to
another
port to see if that makes a difference, and check whatever connections
you
can find to make sure they're properly connected.
If that doesn't make a difference you could either try checking the disk
for
errors, but that might not really be of any use/work if the problem is
either a physical/hardware problem, and the other way to check that one
would be to try connecting your drive to another computer and seeing if
it
does the same.
Either way, to check drive for errors - and not sure how different this
is
in some versions of windows - but in windows explorer, in my computer,
when
focused on drive, but not browsing it as such, hit keystroke of alt +
enter
to bring up the properties dialogue, ctrl + tab to the tools page, and
hit
space bar on check for errors, and maybe you'll find something there that
helps.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Help with external hard drive
Hello, I have a problem with my external hard drive, I have no problem
opening it and viewing the files. When I go to open a file it tells me
file
cannot be found.
I did get a message the other day, that something like: one of the USB
devices is damaged or something like that, I missed that message and
never
seen it again.
I have tried to open zip files on that drive and it tells me the zip
file
is
damaged
So if any one can help I would appreciate it very much!
