Hi
First I wanted to thank everyone who offered me ideas on how to back up
my windows 98 computer. I thought it might be helpful for others in a
similar situation to hear what I did.
First, I followed the recommendation of someone on the list to buy a
adapter that has the right data plug on one end for the hard Drive and a USB
plug on the other. Next I removed the hard drive from the old computer and
plugged in the data cable. and the external power supply that came with the
cable. After that I plugged the power supply in to the wall outlet and the
USB cable in to my Vista laptop. Then I created a new folder on my backup
hard drive. Next I went to the root folder of my windows 98 drive did a
select all and then copied the contents. Finally, I navigated back to my new
folder on the backup hard drive and pasted the contents of my windows 98
drive there. It took a long time to copy 20 GB from the old drive to the new
but now that job is done. Now, I just need to find the rest of my old hard
drives. Smile.
God bless,
Mark

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, Mark.
The easiest way to do that might be to load the contents of one of your
older Jaws program disks right into the machine. It will run quite well
without any additional product keys in 40 minute mode. I'd suggest an
older version since they take up less space.

Hi John,
Well, if I could load JAWS temporarily on to the computer. I could
plug in my large USB hard drive and simply copy and paste the entire
contents of the computers small hard drive on to my portable hard drive.
Then I could copy the contents from the portable USB drive to a DVD rom
and give that to my sister who owns the computer. She now has a new
laptop computer and really would prefer to import her data to it. Then to
revive the older desktop computer.
God bless,

Mark, I'm not sure I understand your point. Of course, you can
easily load any version of Jaws for a 40 minute trial mode. How does
this issue reflect retrieving data from a Windows 98 machine?

Hi
I wish there was a way to install a forty minute JAWS demo.

The problem would be that to access it's data externally, via
something like a network cable etc. you'd need to allow this to happen
by sharing paths etc., so to be honest, simplest would be to take the
hard drive out and mount it in either another machine, or an external
hard drive housing etc., or you could maybe have the video card
replaced with something simple/cheap, etc.
Pity, in this case that there's no built in narrator for windows 98.
Stay well

Hi
My sister's windows 1998 computer has a bad video card. She would
like to have the data from her hard drive. It seems to me that there
should be some way to retrieve the data but I don't know how. I would
appreciate any insights people may have on this subject.
Thank you in advance.
God bless,
