Hello, I don't know your scanner model, but you didn't mention which version of Kurzweil 1000 you are using.
The latest is version 12.04 and since version 10, I get an average accuracy confidence rate regarding the scans of more than 98% on printed text. I find books to scan more accurate if put sideways on a flatbed scanner and scanning two pages per scan and the response is quicker if you change the automatic page orientation from automatic to however you put your book, mine is the rightside of the page at the front of the scanner, but it will depend on your scanner. Your cpu processor and amount of ram will also make a difference and the Plustech opticbook 4600 scans a double page in three seconds with my present quad core processor pc with 4 gig of ram. The replacement model for that scanner has just become available and is the Plustec Opticbook 4800, with the same, if not better results than the one I use and a different scanning lamp, which apparently doesn't require the 30 secconds warm up time, according to messages on the Kurzweil list. If by OBR you mean Open book, then I found with openbook 7.02, which I still use at work, that accuracy is better when you have the page recognised after every scan and not scan continuously in a batch, but recognition is sometimes fast enough that you just have time to turn the page in any case, before the recognition is complete and you could proceed with the next scan, scanner setting must be on scan in background and tones enabled and then you can read and edit in a different place in the same book, while scanning. this is with a slow pc with less than 1 gig ram. Kurzweil is much superior to Openbook.
