And they can run Dear Mark,
Thanks for your help,
Could you tell me know how much time your HP 5000 scans a page?
The store near my house has 3 scanner are Cannon, HP and Epson. All are 1200 DPI and higher. I don't know which scanner I should purchase.
Could you help me?
Thanks
Nam

Hi
I found the best OCR at 600 DPI. I am using the OCR software that came
free with my HP 5000 scanner. I am currently in the middle of scanning my
textbooks for my class in the University. So, you know I have to have pretty
good OCR for that.

God bless,
Mark

At the default of 300 DPI, I also usually get that level of accuracy and
the scan is faster than at 600 DPI.

Hi
I use the scanning software that came with my HP 5000 scanner. I
adjusted it to scan at 600 DPI and the results are close to 100% on a
standard textbook.

I forgot to mention that it also improves accuracy if one puts a book on
the scanner lid, while scanning, which lid should always be closed.

Especially with thick books, that helps to keep the page as flat as
possible on the scanner, especially at the binding in the middle.

Openbook doesn't have that feature, but with Kurzweil, I do an "Optimise
scanning," via the scan menu and save the settings, if what I start
scanning has a less accurate percentage rate than 98%.

The Kurzweil announcement of confidence accuracy level is per default
set to 95%, meaning that when the accuracy is better it's not announced,
but I changed the default announcement to 98%.

It also streamlines the recognition process better if one changes the
progress of scanning and recognition announcements from words to sounds,
especially if one is reading and/or editing while scanning, as it then
doesn't stop the reading of text to announce but play the relevant sound
together with the speech of the text one is busy reading.

I really don't know, as I bought the previous model in the beginning of
the year and I'm in South-Africa, so probably paid much more than you
would.

According to the Kurzweil list you should get the relevant info, or
links to dealers now on the Plustec Opticbook site, for which I don't
have an url
at hand.

Hello,

I don't know your scanner model, but you didn't mention which version of
Kurzweil 1000 you are using.

The latest is version 12.04 and since version 10, I get an average
accuracy confidence rate regarding the scans of more than 98% on printed
text.

I find books to scan more accurate if put sideways on a flatbed scanner
and scanning two pages per scan and the response is quicker if you
change the automatic page orientation from automatic to however you put
your book, mine is the rightside of the page at the front of the
scanner, but it will depend on your scanner.

Your cpu processor and amount of ram will also make a difference and the
Plustech opticbook 4600 scans a double page in three seconds with my
present quad core processor pc with 4 gig of ram.

The replacement model for that scanner has just become available and is
the Plustec Opticbook 4800, with the same, if not better results than
the one I use and a different scanning lamp, which apparently doesn't
require the 30 secconds warm up time, according to messages on the
Kurzweil list.

If by OBR you mean Open book, then I found with openbook 7.02, which I
still use at work, that accuracy is better when you have the page
recognised after every scan and not scan continuously in a batch, but
recognition is sometimes fast enough that you just have time to turn the
page in any case, before the recognition is complete and you could
proceed with the next scan, scanner setting must be on scan in
background and tones enabled and then you can read and edit in a
different place in the same book, while scanning.
this is with a slow pc with less than 1 gig ram.

Kurzweil is much superior to Openbook.

Regards,

Riana

Hello friends: can anybody share your experienced suggestion for
improving scan quality?
I am using KURZWEIL 1000 for scanning. The scanner model is HP scanget
g2410.
At the same time is there any option to scan continuously in OBR?
anticipating for your valuable guidance.
