All current scanners could handle the DPI necessary to scan text, which I was told would never need more than 600 dotts per inch. Your discrepancy is in the software and the mainstream Finereader and Omnipage is good and in any case utilised in both adaptive OCR programs, Openbook and Kurzweil, but many blind users use the said mainstream programs directly with jaws or window eyes, with alleged good results.
