Hey Dark,
I get your point completely and I can't say that you are not right as those are
the facts. But it is one thing to live in the UK or in the US and another to
live in a developed country. The difference is that, for many if not most
people in the UK or US, buying a game is like paying for a cup of coffee, while
here buying a game is an investment. No problem if a game is 2 or 3 dollars, at
least for me, for someone else it also can be a big issue, but if I spent 40
dollars on a game just to see it free after a few monthhs, I hope you can
imagine my feelings. I get the technical issues, but the question is, when and
how can they conflict with some ethical issues.
Best,
Miloš

Hi Milo.
I’m afraid I must disagree completely. Lots of people (including me),
bought lots of games back in the day that are now free, superliam, judgement
day,Bsc titles etc. However if the status had remained paid nobody would’ve
been able to get hold of them when they were no longer on sale.
The fact is software updates, requirements change and developers cannot
always keep their games uptodate with the latest operating system changes. Of
course, there are plenty of compatibility fixes and the like that mean people
can still play them, (indeed this is one of Jim Kitchin’s greatest
contributions to this community, since without him getting a lot of older
titles including his to run on windows 7-10, would be far more difficult), it
gets harder and harder for developers to keep them up to date.
This is why Q9 ended up being sold off to an unscrupulous hack , and why
games like the original Klango pirate memnory game are not available anymore.
Contrast the situation on’ windows and Ios.
Judgement day celibrated it’s tenth anniversary the other day, and there are
people who are new to this community who downloaded and played it this year.
On the other hand, games like the pappasangre 1 and 2, Solara and soul
trapper which are barely 7 years old are now utterly inaccessible thanks to
Apple’s closed development system , people’s inability to maintain the games
when their life circumstances change, and the fact that the games can no longer
be bought.
And of course, don’t forget that just because one game from a developer is
free, it doesn’t mean that developer drops off the Map. Ian is still producing
games now which I will certainly support, and Jason Alan of Entombed is going
on to work on a sequel which will likely be bigger, badder, better and also a
paid game.
As someone who was around with Entombed’s development from the very
beginning, was a private alpha tester, contributed ideas and moderated the
entombed mailing list, I’m really happy people will be able to go on enjoying
the game for years to come.
All the best,
Dark.

Hi all, sincerely I would not like this, and I will explain why, risking
being linched by the community.
I baught 3d vilocity and it went free after some time. I baught Entombed and
it is also apparently free. I also baught Misissipi and I think anyone can play
it legaly. Some time ago, people baught Tarzan Junior, for, Inspector Cyndi
series, and some other games. Now is it fair that someone pays and someone else
has it for free after some time? For example, I was excited yesterday when I
found out that the Inspector Cyndi series was free. But on the other hand, I
know that somebody else paid for it and has the same as I do have now. Does the
money lose its value just because the time passes? Not sure. Or is it worth
waiting because, sooner or later, everything will go free? Since Tom and Jim
are no more, the Windows audiogame community is slowly but surely getting
Balcanized, as Barack Obama put it today in an interview. Speaking of which, I
must remember a time when Charles was saying that I was promoting piracy on the
Audissey list. I didn't do that, but the developers themselves do just that by
being unfair to those who paid.
Best,
Miloš

So does this mean I get to create an account now to go in to the shops?

Hi,,
Just received the below email from the entombed mailing list from Jason
alan who made entombed, I still think this is a great audio game and thought
I’d share the email/news from Jason with everyone:
Hi everyone!
Sorry for being absent for so long. I'm essentially a slave to my job, hah.
I've had a lot of success over the past few years making casual games for
mobile players (unfortunately, these haven't been accessible) but I haven't had
a break out hit where I could dedicate some time for other games. I'm currently
in the United States away from my development environment in Australia so it's
possible I messed this up, but you should be able to log in to your account and
have full access if you didn't have it before. If you create a new account,
that should be automatically upgraded. I also reset all the scores, so
hopefully that is working again too.
The server I've been running this on is extremely expensive compared to the
ones I use today for my games so I'll eventually migrate it over. Maybe with a
new release if I can manage it.
Every time I get some spare holiday time, I try to dedicate some time to
accessible game development and I have made some cool stuff - sadly, none of it
release-worthy yet.
For anyone who has had issues purchasing or delay in communication, I
apologize. Due to the legacy nature of the game, I try to queue up a lot of
fixes at the same time.
Cheers!
Jason
