Hi.
One game I've had a lot of fun with over time is Erion mud, and since it
has had a lot of changes and updates recently and is becoming quite
unique, I thought I'd mention it here.
The game is your standard fantasy game and has a lot of things other
muds have, missions to complete, automated quests, lots of areas,
fantasy races and classes and so on.
However, there are a lot of things that make Erion unique.
Both missions with story and automated jobs, lots of random objects to
find scattered around the mud from chocolate bunnies to magic sigils, a
monster arena where you can fight in challenges and so on.
The game has a great crafting system, with mining, smithing smelting,
basket making, tanning and crafting leather, foraging for magic seeds
and growing your own gardend, the single most interesting fishing system
I've seen in pretty much any mud, and weaving, lapidary (working with
gems), and most recently glass making, which fits in with the games very
unique alchemy and potion brewing system, and what is even better, is
all of these can be done for experience, indeed there are even crafting
missions where you have to craft an item for a shopkeeper.
The activities have just that right range of being complicated enough to
keep your attention, but not so ridiculously complex as to be difficult
to start.
Same goes for combat, while the game has very standard combat like
Alteraeon or many other dicu muds, at the same time there are enough
extra abilities, potions and so on to make each class unique and give
you something to aim at, without being so complex as to be off putting.
Ditto with the games stats and trains system and the way it handles classes.
Combat is just where it starts though, with automated quests, missions
to do with story, large areas to explore and random little games and
extra details that occur throughout the game, from occasional mud wide
competitions and events, like who can catch the most fish, or find a
specific room, to fun little extras like finding chocolate bunnies,
mystic sigils, or fighting in a monster colosseum. Not to mention little
events like finding scrabble tiles or guess the phrase.
The community is also hands down one of the nicest I've seen in a game,
very ready to help with quest hints, gear or other extras.
indeed, the game has several houses (like guilds), all built for
different play styles, from the newbies house, to houses specialised in
crafting. alchemy, exploration, monster slaying or fighting other
players if that's your thing, though pvp is very much optional in this game.
Best of all, accessibility is always a major concern.
You can connect to the game with any client at erionmud.com port 1234.
However most recently Erion has now created it's own stand alone client
(a preconfigured version of Mushclient), with a soundpack, so even
people who haven't played muds before can just download that and start
straight off.
You can find that here:

If anyone is playing, feel free to give me a yell, my char is Thile on
there.
All the best,
Dark.
