HI, All are basically forced to convert. And by forced I mean you will notice things like recalling does not work as it had been. There are other things you will notice but that one sticks out most in my mind.
As for a social place. Yes, many do that. They just log in and chat with others. Might do a little bit to level up but shat and be social is what they came to do.
