Well, I tried my character's name in uncontracted computer braille with no capitals. But still got the invalid name response. So for whatever reason, the Nexus client has decided to go from a bit clumsy to downright irritating. So I'm going to drop Alter for now. Yes, I could create a new character with no short forms such as "the" in its name, but I don't think I want to because I'm frankly sick of this client's intermitent hiinups. I just get the scrollback limit set to 300 to fix its lag issue, take a break, and suddenly a name that it breezed through with no issues is giving it fits. No thank you.
But thanks to all who tried to help me out over the past year with this adventure. And thanks to the Alter devs for making such a fun and fcscinating game both to play and watch. Happy mudding everyone!
Thanks again, John. I remember reading that now you've refreshed my memory. This means that my level 18 druid with about 40 total levels should last about 27 months or more.

The time it takes for a character to time out is based on the number of levels the character has:
- 12 months for a level 1, all levels 1 char
- 19 months for a level 10, all levels 15 char
- 27 months for a level 15, all levels 30 char
- 37 months for a level 20, all levels 50 char
- 49 months for a level 25, all levels 75 char
- 64 months for a level 30, all levels 104 char
Characters above 104 in all levels are currently never deleted.
Characters which are not in an account delete 6 months faster than this to help release names created by people just checking out the game.

Hi, if memory serves, you’d only lose a char/game would remove it if you were inactive for 6 months, and the char level is 0, so for example, if you reset an existing char and just left it, it would eventually be removed.

I haven't logged in for about 6 months. So when it said "invalid name" I thought perhaps the name had been released because of that extended idle period. But based on the fact that the game itself recognized the name as "in use" and the fact that I was able to successfully log into the web portal, I tend to agree with others on this list that something is off with the client I use. But thanks for the clarification, Dentin.

The character already exists, so you can only log it in. You can't create a new character with that name, because it already exists.
If you want to reset the character, log in with your email instead, and select the restart option.

That's not exactly germane to the conversation :)
Heather has the device and client she wants to be using, and the question is whether or not she's able to get connected. Going into technical tangents of what's possible with the device, while totally cool (I'd be a lot more interested in a Braillenote touch if I could load Linux on it), is not going to help her figure out why her current client is refusing to enter text correctly.

I redownloaded Nexus and changed the port back to 3010. But still got the same "invalid name, try another" response when I tried Coralthewolf. And yes, that is the correct spelling. So I tried logging into their secure login portal on their site. This worked splendidly and my account info looked just fine. So I went back to my client and tried to re-create Coralthewolf. I got the message "name is already in use" which of course, it is. So the game itself clearly recognizes the character. But after closing the app completely for several hours I got the same "invalid name" message, even though I know I'm typing it correctly. The only thing I can see that might be strange is that at the very bottom of the screen, within the client, are quite a few lines of code: numbers, letters, quotes, question minks, and the plus sign, in several configurations. I have no idea what, if anything, it means. The only understandable lines say Alter Aeon v2.25 or something like that. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas what's going on? Should I try to create a new character and if that one logs in successfully, try to log it out and log Coral io? Thanks for any responses. Heather
