Hi Richard,
The shock controllers are nothing more than propriatary force feedback
game controllers. They have built in motors in them, and when a ffe file
is loaded in to them, and the game starts it to running the motors are
turned on and the controller vibrates. The ffe files instructs the
controller how much to vibrate, how long, etc...
In addition the more advanced ff devices will have moders in the stick
or wheel which makes it hard to turn. This is good as you can set the
tention on those devices to emulate the realistic physics and tention of
a wheel of a real car.
As for writing sudo code it is a good thing. it gets the ideas down in a
form you can read before the game goes to press. It allows you to think
through the logic of problems, but you sometimes won't know if your idea
works until it goes to the actual compiler.
