Hello,

It isn't fair to compare Space Invaders and PacMan to pinball. They
are two entirely different types of game. All three are often found
in arcades, but that's about where the similarity ends.

Space Invaders and PacMan were also computerized, and neither would
really be the same if they were played mechanically, if such a feat
would even be possible. They are computer games.

Pinball is a mechanical game. Moving parts and little metallic balls
make up the game play. Other examples of mechanical games are ski
ball, the Claw, and Whack-a-Mole.

An inherent part of computers and computerized gaming is being able
to save one's game.

An inherent part of mechanical gaming is that you can't.

So, I do understand the logic James was going for. That doesn't
necessarily mean I agree with it. Saving games in Alien Outback was
a feature that James added to the game after receiving a lot of
requests for it. He had never planned to include that feature, an
din fact did not fully implement it in versions of the game he released.

Likewise, James never intended to allow games to be saved with
DynaMan. That was something Adora Entertainment added after many
requests for the feature.

Leaving the realm of fact and entering the realm of speculation, I
don't believe James was particularly fond of Save Game features in
general. The only game he ever implemented such a feature in was
Alien Outback, and that was as an afterthought.

Monkey Business, for all intensive purposes, kept track of your score
and whether you completed a level, but that was pretty much it. You
couldn't save a game in the midst of a level.
