My personal way of dealing with the sticky pads is to have my husband and son check them and then take the little guys outside to die. However, if I had something on one and had to deal with it myself, I would use the tip given to me by a friend of mine. She throws a towel over them and then bangs them with a hammer. The whole thing then goes into the trash. Sounds awful, but it is actually a much more humane way to go than a traditional mouse or rat trap or the sticky pads.
Be careful when you buy the sticky pads. They sell these ones that are supposed to be for bugs and rodents. They are just little flat pads, and they work great for catching ants, but they have to be folded in some box thing to catch mice. Even when folded they do not seem to work very well. Make sure you get the ones for the size critter you want to catch. We get the Tom Cat brand. I have been learning a lot about them as we have had a lot of trouble with mice where we live now. I think it is the ongoing construction and development in the area. Does anyone besides me find that you can just smell the little horrible things after you know what the smell is? I can remember smelling that smell before in people houses and not knowing what it was.
