Hey Brice, I am not sure if a cable hitch and a taught-line are the same thing.
The safety line knot may be similar to a Prusick knot. I have used Prusick knots to ascend a rope. It is just a thin line tied into a loop. You then wrap the loop around a thicker rope three times and pull it through itself. When it is unweighted you can push the knot up the rope. When you weight it, it cinches down on the rope and won't slide down. Using two of these, one attached to your harness and one attached to your foot, you can jug your way up a rope by alternately weighting and unweighting each knot and pushing them up the rope. It is hard work. Does this sound like the safety line knot you mentioned? If not, then give it a try to explain it. Thanks. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University.
