Hi Rob,

That sounds to me something like a spin saw or sometimes known as a zip saw,
probably some of those other rotary tools like the Dremmel. I have never used
one and don't yet own one but I have cut the occasional round hole in duct work
using a hacksaw blade in a jig saw and a certain number of bandaides. I have
also done it with snips but not very well, not very round and a similar number
of bandaides..

For a hole larger than about three inches in diameter something like a stick
with a nail through it or a screw through the metal into a stick to spin around
that pivot point and use the stick as a guide to keep the jigsaw following
works fairly well provided the sheet metal is well enough supported. A proper
fine hacksaw blade still wants to make the sheet dance and you will want
hearing protection and you should probably have eye protection as well. I must
confess I usually forget the eye protection.

There are guys on this list who apparently can follow a scribed scratch or line
with tools and presumably their fingers but I cannot, or at least not well
enough to be any better than free-hand. but if you think you can you should be
able to scratch a circle you could feel and maybe follow that with cutters.

I expect the spin saw would be the best answer though, what I do know about
them is that they spin a cutter something like a router, sort of a cross
between a router and a drill I suppose. Maybe when I am back to work and have a
income again I'll buy one and see.

Anyone else have and/or use a spin saw?

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] cutting a hole

HI, Thinks for all the information on the pop rivet gun... Now I need any
ideas on how to cut a 6-inch round hole in a peace of sheet metal.. Y ears ago
I worked in a Plumbing and heating place and if I remember right one of the
guys used a thing where you drilled a hole in the center of what you wanted to
cut the hole and this tool had a pin that you put in the hole and there was a
rod type thing and on the other end you could mount a drill this was adjustable
so you could move the drill back and fore so you could get the different size
hole. Now as far as I know you used just a regular drill bit and just turned on
the drill and turned it around and cut out the hole... Now does this sound like
it would work or am I thinking of some thing else???
  THANKS ROB from Minnesota
