If you are putting in 30 year shingles I'd replace the ridge vent too. Might as well have them remove all the shingles and inspect the roof decking replacing any bad or failing wood while they are there, and maybe the fascia and possibly the soffet too unless it is in wonderful condition.
You might want to consider seamless eves trough or guttering as you call it there, particularly if you don't already have it. they may damage it while installing the shingles.. My question is , is it standard procedure to have a roofing contractor supply a written contract ? Another thought is does that roofing contractor need to show you a liability policy or is that roofing work covered under your home owners policy. Originally I was going to get a cheaper job done as I want to sell and move up out of this valley but after rethinking this I will get the better grade 30 year shingles once suggested by Dale. Oh, toss in one more question. that roof ridge vent . do you know if those are taken off during the new job or does it need to come off and be replaced. thanks Lee -- File cabinet: A four drawer, manually activated trash compactor.
