Also, if you need any kind of permit in your area for construction, find out if
the bid includes applying for and paying for the permit. You know, compare
apples to apples.

I'd want a contract in duplicate before I'd let a contractor any where near
my roof, and I would look for one who is insured or bonded, however the
terminology applies. A lot of the contractors who bid jobs here in Topeka
advertise that they are insured.
I would imagine any reputable roofer would offer contracts and warranty their
work.

I am being pressured by my homeowners insurance company to get a new
roof installed. My question is , is it standard procedure to have a
roofing contractor supply a written contract ? Another thought is does
that roofing contractor need to show you a liability policy or is
that roofing work covered under your home owners policy. Originally I
was going to get a cheaper job done as I want to sell and move up out
of this valley but after rethinking this I will get the better grade 30
year shingles once suggested by Dale. Oh, toss in one more question.
that roof ridge vent . do you know if those are taken off during the
new job or does it need to come off and be replaced. thanks Lee
