You should not hear the compressor running in fan mode only. Check your damper
settings to make sure you are not drawing in outside cooler air since the temps
have dropped.
If in fact the compressor is running in fan only mode, two things can
cause it. A contactor that has feathered and burnt fast and will not open, and
2, there is a short in the system and the compressor is grounded.
