I just checked and the vent is closed......I'm not sure if the compressor is running or not when it's in fan mode and right now, we have it turned off since about 8 this morning, because the water that is coming out of it on the outside is ice cold and the bottom of the unit is very cold and the air temp is still not cool, it's about 80 or so. The only way for me to know if the compressor runs when it's in fan mode is to sit right by it and listen for it to go on and off.I have to be honest, I don' t know what a feathered contactor is, or a short in the system and the compressor is grounded....is any of that dangerous??
