Thanks but no go. I'll pack it off this week and they can fix/replace it as they wish.
I went to the Cobalt site, I don't see the tape measure in their offerings any more. I didn't look at everything so I might have missed it but I think it is gone. Dale, I've had that message before too. One of the flaws with this tape is it only reads close to a 1/16 of an inch. There is a bit of travel between the next time it will read the next marking. One way to clear its little mind is to pull the tape out about a foot and hold the release until it slams all the way home. If it doesn't reset at zero try hitting the zero button, middle button of 3 on the bottom row. There isn't one reliable fix to this message. Another way is to pull the tape out and hit zero when it is several inches out. This will give you a negative reading when the tape retracts but hitting zero will sometimes reset the reading. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dale Leavens To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2008 12:06 AM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] ERROR: Tape is not in. Sound familiar? My daughter bought me one of those talking tape measures last birthday and now this is all it says. I haven't actually used it a lot. One has to wonder what sort of user testing they put this expensive toy up to. It did it about twice a week ago but now that is all it will say. I have changed the battery but same thing.
