I hate to be part of our throw-away-society but how old is the unit? On two occasions I actually replaced the unit because of the mentioned problem. I tried repairing with a repair vinyl kit. It was a very short time fix. I even tried to use some heat shrink tubing. At the time the unit was 8 years old and the cost for the new baskets was $150. For about $100 more I had a new unit. I factored in that if I need another repair on the unit pump/transmission that repair would exceed the $100 cost. The other unit that I replaced was about 9 years old and I didn't think it was worth putting in the money. At what point do you put good money after bad? I have had a think about this problem and it looks like your best bet is to buy a new rack as there's a strong possibility that the rust will reoccur even if treated and the second problem is if you paint the rack the paint may dissolve slowly and release harmful chemicals over your dishes and you end up getting cancer or something so sorry its a throw it in the bin job Best Wishes Andrew ----- Original Message ----- From: Ralph Supernaw To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 4:33 PM Subject: RE: [BlindHandyMan] Dishwasher Rack The problem with our dishwasher is that the points on the thynes that hold the dishes in place are rusting away. We either need to figure out a way to cap them or get a new rack or a new dishwasher. I'm hoping there's a practical way to fix them. _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of RJ Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:09 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Dishwasher Rack My wife uses Country time lemon crystals to clean the dishwasher with. Or sugarless lemon aide Kool-aide. She does this about three times a year and tells me it cleans up the inside of the dishwasher like new. She put some in the soap dispenser and pours a package or two on the bottom of the dishwasher and runs it through a wash cycle empty. Is there any way to fix that?
