If you use the synthetic stuff it cleans up with anhydrous alcohol, brake
cleaner or MEK with absolutely no petroleum residue left behind.

We have a small, bench top? computer controlled milling 
machine in the lab and its manufacturer reccommends automatic transmission
fluid for all its lubrication, lead screws, table slides cutting etc.

Sounds like the wonder juice of lubrication.
But we won't go further than that! <GRIN>
